Dr. Laurens Mandemaker appointed assistant professor

Since May 2024 Dr. Laurens Mandemaker has been appointed as assistant professor in our group!

After completing both his PhD as well as his PostDoc here at ICC, Laurens is continuing his academic career by becoming an assistant professor, focussing on micro- and nanoplastic (MNP) research. In a unique position shared within the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and the Faculty of Science, his research will focus on identifying, characterizing and understanding MNPs both using model systems, and from (within) real-life sources, e.g. human cells or the environment, and link these to potential (human) health effects. To do so, his expertise on micro-spectroscopic techniques aids in fully characterizing these particles, even on the nanoscale, and he will aim to form a bridge between the Institute for Risk Assessment Sciences and Institute for Sustainable and Circular Chemistry and utilize their knowledge and skills to reach new interdisciplinary insights on this relevant topic.
